As an active member of the Fruita community for over 18 years, I have enjoyed being a part of a progressive, thoughtful community. Things are able to happen here when just down the road it is impossible.
During my time I have seen much change and growth. I have had the opportunity to work closely with all ages of the community, youth to seniors. I see the need for a community center. A gathering and support place for our seniors, our youth and our families.
I have seen many negative ads being mailed to Fruita households with misinformation supported by people from outside of our community, (i.e., IHRSA and other “fitness and health clubs” in the valley and beyond). These people and organizations have no business trying to influence and control what is best for our community. It is too bad the money being spent on the negative campaign couldn’t be used to something positive within our community.
It is important for our Fruita residents to get the facts and then decide. Please contact a local representative (Citizens Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board or a city of Fruita staff member) who has worked on the issue and knows the facts.
Vote “Yes” on 2C.

Karen, respectfully, I disagree.
First, the IHRSA and other “fitness and health clubs” have EVERY business trying to influence the community. That’s why they call it capitalism. It’s their Constitutional right to speak their mind.
Second, the private sector is much better qualified to be in the rec center business than The City of Fruita.
Third, if you think a big ugly dinosaur plunked in the center of a roundabout is “progressive”, then you seriously need to get out more often (out of Fruita, that is).
