In 2000, I was a McCain supporter. I, too, served in Vietnam. I saw John as an honorable man, who could restore trust and integrity to the White House. However, he was smeared by the Bush/Rove attack machine in South Carolina. I was excited to see him selected as the Republican candidate in 2008.
Now, John has become what he decried in 2000. In this election, he has relied upon vicious attacks and obviously false or irrelevant accusations. The John McCain I respected eight years ago would have selected a truly seasoned running mate from the ranks of his party.
By any measure Palin is out of her league. John has surrendered his status as a leader to satisfy the extreme elements of the Republican Party. After two decades in the Senate, John would ask me to ignore his role in our current mess. The McCain of 2000 would explain how he would lead us out of eight years of gross Bush incompetence. He shows no awareness of how to stem the greatest economic crisis in seventy years. John is content to use the Bush/Rove tactics he despised eight yeas ago.
Sadly, the John McCain of 2000 is gone. The John McCain of today is erratic, unsure, desperate and willing to sacrifice his integrity to win. He has betrayed his slogan of “Country First.” I am left with no choice but to support his opponent.

William. You are not “left with no choice”. That is the beauty of this country, you always have a choice.
Interestingly enough, if you do a search ‘n replace of McCain with Obama in your letter, you absolutely exemplify my feelings of Barry Obama. Common, Bill, let’s come up with something original to blog.
