How exciting to read on The Daily Sentinel’s Sept. 25 sports πage “The Tanners and their Flyin’ Miata couple finish race in Newfoundland.” The Tanners raced their 1994 Mazda Miata that Keith Tanner built from the frame up to enter a Targa Newfoundland race. The race lasted one week, but it took two years to create the perfect car for this race.

These races attract drivers from all over the world for the more than 1,300 mile course through small towns and narrow country roads. Keith and Jannel, his bride of just over a year, raced as a pair, with Jannel in charge of directions for the course. When you are driving 100 MPH, any mistake made by the map reader could end badly.

Keith works for Flyin’ Miata, a company owned by my daughter, Teri and her husband Bill Cardell, located above Palisade in a converted 25-year-old deserted horse arena. Quite a change from horses to Miatas!

Flyin’ Miata has been in business since 1983 and sells performance products for Miatas worldwide. Every year, people come to Grand Junction from Europe, Asia and, of course, Canada for a great week to celebrate their Miatas’ performance.
