Buescher works hard for Colorado

It is with great enthusiasm and admiration that I recommend Bernie Buescher be re-elected to the House of Representatives.
Average citizens like me realize and appreciate the contributions that Bernie has made by serving as chair of the Joint Budget Committee and helping to craft four balanced budgets that have restored many cuts made during the economic downturn following 9/11. He also has worked hard to protect PERA, working in a non-partisan way to do what is right and best for all Coloradans. His many other accomplishments are too numerous to cite.

I had the privilege of serving with Bernie on an advisory committee for the Food Bank of the Rockies. To know Bernie is to respect and like him. He has and will continue to make significant, positive change in our state government.

Veterans shouldn’t be fooled by Buescher

Veterans, veterans’ families and friends of the military should not be deceived by Bernie Buescher’s latest attempt to convince the voters that he is pro military.

“My father was just a grunt … and I couldn’t stand by and let the government deplete veteran funds … so I lead the effort to restore the money,” one of his advertisements says.

In April of 2007, both houses of the Colorado Legislature passed a joint resolution asking the president to oppose troop escalation and escalation of the war in Iraq. When it was time to take a stand for the military, Bernie sided with the Boulder Democrats and voted “Yes” while Sen. Josh Penry and Rep. Steve King voted “No.”

We veterans will not buy the lame excuse that Buescher was “for the troops but against the president.” During this senseless political act, some of Mesa County’s finest men and women were over there in harm’s way.

The right thing to do would have been to go against the liberal Boulder Democrats and support the military. I can only assume Bernie didn’t understand anything about the values of loyalty, honor and service from his father the “grunt.” Voters beware.

There is a need for Amendment 47

I must adamantly disagree with The Daily Sentinel’s editorial position on Amendment 47. The editorial says that there is a question of the need for Amendment 47 because of the Labor Peace Act. I’m here to tell you there are thousands of working men and women in Colorado like me who need Amendment 47.

I am one of the workers who was forced into the union. I belong to a union even though I don’t want to. I have to pay dues, even though I do not want union representation. My pay raises have been cut in half due to my union contract, my health insurance that was free, I now have to pay for. I have lost thousands in company contributions to my 401(k) plan because of the union. This union has not helped me at all, but I am forced to pay them my hard-earned money. For what?

I have to pay a union that is taking me backward. That is fundamentally wrong, no matter how you spin it.
So there is no need for Amendment 47? I am living proof that the editorial board got it wrong.

We need to re-elect
Bernie Buescher

If there ever was a time when we needed to re-elect Bernie Buescher to the Colorado House of Representatives, it’s now. As Washington struggles with problems on Wall Street, Colorado needs Bernie for two very specific reasons: his experience as chairman of the Joint Budget Committee and his strong support of a state rainy-day fund. Colorado can’t afford to be without his financial good
sense and leadership.
