Janet Rowland repeatedly brags about all she has done to save children from being abused. What she fails to admit that she has consistently failed to protect the rights of parents who have been falsely accused of abuse and neglect.

She failed to strengthen the county Citizens Review Panel which was supposed to be composed of objective persons who were available to review the complaints of parents and reverse the process of taking away the custody of their children when this step was improperly recommended by Mesa County Department of Human Services.

The complaint process is severely lacking in objectivity with no unbiased non-involved person available to review the process of the Mesa County Department of Human Service (DHS). One state representative, Anne McGihon, has agreed it is important to establish a state Ombudsman to serve parents in such situations.

Janet Rowland also uses her political power to become involved in personel situations with DHS and fails to obtain expert professional advice to obtain the best-qualified persons for this critical county department. In fact, all the county commissioners should stop using political power when involved with DHS situations. The county only contributes 0.02 percent of the total budget and should stop insisting they have the right to such interference in the operation of DHS.

A vote for Janet Rowland is a step backwards in county government operations.

I have not heard Janet Roland “brag” about her efforts to focus public attention on the growing problem of child abuse in Mesa County. Asking “How are the children ?”, mourning deaths due to child abuse, and attacking an epidemic of Meth abuse, are reasonable efforts by an elected official to elevate our awareness. The legal rights of adult parents accused of child abuse should be the same in all Colorado Counties.

I will vote again to re-elect Janet Roland. She is a proven leader who has worked very hard to improve the quality of life in Mesa County.

Mrs. Rowland does boast of her child efforts. On her county web site Mrs. Rowland (http://www.mesacounty.us/)claims to be a psychotherapist specializing in children. This is very misleading at best. According to the state of Colorado Department of Registrations, Mrs. Rowland was an “unlicensed psychotherapist” from July 19, 1993 to June 30, 1995. That is less than two years. Can a person become a specialized in child therapy in two years who never became licensed? This is the same level as Ward Churchill claiming to be a Native American when it is not true. Another example of Mrs. Rowland’s wavering integrity is not take responsibility for plagiarizing in the Free Press, she blamed it on bullies. Shame on Mrs. Rowland.
