It was no surprise to me that The Daily Sentinel endorsed John McCain for president, a man who has all the faults and none of the virtues of the classic, opportunistic politician.
The Sentinel has endorsed a man who has no fundamentally new ideas other than to carry on the awful legacy of the last eight years; a manufactured “war hero” who crashed three airplanes, confessed to his captors and rose through the military ranks because of his daddy’s influence; and a man who has shamemessly flip-flopped on more issues than John Kerry in order to woo the American electorate.
With my retirement funds rapidly eroding away and the United States on the brink of financial collapse, I am ready for any candidate who can offer up new ideas and new hope. And McCain isn’t the guy.

Calm judgement and intelligence are what we require now and McCain doesn’t have either. Whatever votes he gets will be of the “I’ve always been a Republican and won’t vote any other way” variety. Massive change is required and McCain doesn’t have a clue—as witness his directionless vile and clueless campaign. If he can’t handle a campaign how can he possibly handle the mess W is leaving?

Oh Greg: A “manufactured war hero” — Just talk to or listen to any of the Vietnam POWs talk about Senator McCain. Are they all “manufactured heroes?”. “Crashed three airplanes” — Have you ever flown a fighter? Do you think you could avoid a SAM, if you could fly one? Are you aware that jet engines can quit? Which of the “three crashes” were determined to be his fault “Confessed to his captors” — Neary every POW went beyond name, rank and serial number under inhumane tortures. Just what the heck did he “confess?” Do you have a quote or reference to whatever secrets he confessed?
You may quibble with Senator McCain on other issues, but not on his service to this country.
And, as “John” says, you are sure to get “massive change” with Senator Obama. I fear that will be equal to Socialism in the long run, but if that is what you desire then have at it. Senator McCain, like him or not, has at least crossed party lines many times. In his short (100 plus days before going for president) senate career, Senator Obama has not. Enjoy your “stimulus package,” higher taxes, loss of the small business owners (most of whom make over $250K or they don’t last anyway) or their employees as they try to cope.
Best of luck to you in the future.

Obama is going to cut taxes for 95% of the population by getting rid of their jobs.
No job, no income.
No income, no tax liability.
Instant tax cut.

Oh really John? So because my vote counted for Sen. McCain, I must be a ‘Republican for life’? Funny. This is only the second time I have been able to vote in an election, due to only being 22 years old.
Last time I voted for Kerry so that we wouldn’t have another 4 years of GWB.
And Mr Bricker is right on the money. War heroes aren’t fabricated or manufactured. You are not given honors for your daddy’s accomplishments. The time he spent as a prisoner, after defending OUR freedoms was a waste of his time? Is that really what you are trying to say Greg? I dare you to stand up in front of a group of POW’s or American Legion riders and say to the men and women who were there, who lived the same experiences that John McCain lived, that they are not true American heroes because ‘they crashed their plane’. No matter how they got captured, they still got captured. They wouldn’t have been taken prisoner if they were sitting at home like the majority of yellow belly cowards in this country. But they were out defending a country and a land that they love. They were and still are standing up for what they believe in, and that is America. The American Flag, and the National Anthem of this great nation.
Which by the way, Obama plans to change our flag and the anthem. Don’t believe me? Go ask ‘Meet the Press’

In regards to John McCain, John, in post #2, wrote the following:
“Whatever votes he gets will be of the “I’ve always been a Republican and won’t vote any other way” variety.”
As the exit polls indicate,McCain received 10% of the Democratic vote and 44% (FORTY FOUR PERCENT)of the independent cote.

So John was clearly wrong. It would be quite refreshing if John would admit his mistake.

“They wouldn’t have been taken prisoner if they were sitting at home like the majority of yellow belly cowards in this country.”
It is precisely this attitude that alienates so many people to your point of view. Just because someone has not served in the military and fought in a war does not make them a “yellow bellied coward”. Or, are you referring only to George W. Bush?

armywife posts: “Which by the way, Obama plans to change our flag and the anthem.”
Really? I listen to Meet the Press on a regular basis, as well as other discussion (not argument) shows, and have never heard him make such a statement. Who said it? It certainly was not Obama or anyone on his campaign staff.

What a bunch of nastiness coming from both ends of the spectrum. Why pick up this discussion today, almost a month later, and repeat lies about the candidate who already won? This is pathetic, people.

Ash states: “What a bunch of nastiness coming from both ends of the spectrum.”
True, but that is because far too many have misplaced allegiance, and become emotional when they “don’t get what they want.” That indicates severaly things: (1) That allegiance is misplaced (to something other than country) and (2) That too many people make their decisions “emotionally”, then attempt to rationalize them, “picking and choosing” supposed facts to suit.

Bullish, is an opinion a mistake? Yes, McCain got a few Demo votes but he got fewer of the independents vote than his total percentage. Not exactly a swell of non-Republican votes to his candidacy. The point is, his candidacy was all over the place and didn’t represent any consistent thread other than inane attacks on bogus Obama connections and supposed beliefs and inclinations. The public rejected that, except, of course locally. How did the local vote for McCain go relative to oomposition of party afilition? Mc Cain lost, Obama won, end of story. We’ll find out soon enough whether it’ll be a new day or business as usual. There’s no question that it would have been business as usual with McCain. Thats why he lost.

John: “Whatever votes he gets will be of the “I’ve always been a Republican and won’t vote any other way” variety.”
Everyone can be forgiven for making wrong predictions. Yours was total nonsense.
The honorable way to handle this, John, is very simple. It would be to say that you were wrong when you wrote that only life-long Republicans would vote for McCain. It really isn’t so hard to do that John.

armywife2008 - You said, “Which by the way, Obama plans to change our flag and the anthem. Don’t believe me? Go ask ‘Meet the Press’”
With all due respect, your statement is nonsense. I’ve watched every Obama and Biden appearance on that program during the campaign and can guarantee you that no such statement was ever made.
If such a statement had been made, don’t you think it would have been widely reported. Such a statement would have instantly cost Obama the election.
Think, young lady, think!!

bullish, what is this, some sort of a confessional? It was my opinion. It was meant to indicate that McCain’s appeal was mainly to died-in-the-wool Republican’s. As always, the independents split between candidates. In this case a little less to McCain than Obama. OK, 10% Demos. Does that indicate a rush to McCain’s position? What was the percentage of Republican voters Obama got? Who cares. The results were what they were. In the end, it’s over and we’ll see what happens. That’s all you’ll get.

OK John, it is evident that you are not capable of admitting that your prediction was wrong.
You see, I totally understand that you didn’t mean what you wrote. I know that you are a knowledgeable individual and that you knew, as you wrote in this most recent post, that independents would split their vote, and that not just life-long Republicans would vote for McCain. It was a foolish statement.
So, we’ll just leave it at that.
And just so you know, I have, and will continue to admit my mistakes when they are pointed out to me on this blog.

The Obama/change the flag thing is a total hoax, and not even a recent one. Just like the Michelle Obama $450 snack hoax that Willis misreported a few days ago. Just check snopes.com. Or, read the following article:
Published: October 16, 2008 11:55 AM ET
NEW YORK In recent months, conservatives have been caught red-faced spreading smears about Barack Obama via emails and blogs and Web sites, their sources eventually unmasked as tainted or non-existent people. Now here’s another example, but this one is a little different–the source is a Washington Post reporter named Dale Lindsborg.
Of course, there is no Dale Lindsborg at the Post (or seemingly anywhere) but when did that get in the way of a good smear?
Even a giveaway line in his alleged account where Obama endorses an old Coke commercial song as our new national anthem did not deter some from believing it and making it “viral.”
For at least two weeks the “Lindsborg” account of an Obama appearance on “Meet the Press” on Sept. 7 has been rocketing around the world and back again via email and the Internet, sometimes showing up at reputable sites — such as the Post itself — in their Comments sections. Someone even brought it up on Wednesday in an online chat with Washington Post reporter Ann Kornblut at the paper’s site. She said she knew of no Lindsborg but would check on it (hey, put Bob Woodward on the case).
The charge is the old familiar tale of Obama not believing in honoring the flag, and hating America, with the new twist that he said this on “Meet the Press” a month ago (somehow the world missed this) and that it has been confirmed by the aforementioned Dale Lindsborg.
It was debunked this week on the Snopes.com site, which traced it back to a satiric entry at an obscure site that was taken seriously and spread widely.
The giveaway should have been Obama saying he wanted to junk our “bellicose” national anthem, the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and replace it with the more peaceful “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” — adding that if that was our anthem “then I might salute it.”
He supposedly then added, “It’s my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren.” And: “My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago.”
Reporter “Lindsborg” then winds up his account: “Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right. This could possibly be our next President. I, for one, am speechless.”
Taylor Batten, editorial page editor at the Charlotte Observer, commented yesterday at one of his paper’s blogs, “Come on, people. You’re e-mailing this to all your friends, in a panic, in disbelief that this man is leading in the polls.
“Here’s an idea: think for yourself! Spend, oh, 10 seconds on Google and see if there really is a”Dale Lindsborg at the Washington Post. Spend 30 seconds seeing if Obama was even ON the Sept. 7 ‘Meet the Press.’ Are you so predisposed to one candidate or the other that you can’t think critically?”
