I see where The Daily Sentinel and a few others have endorsed Bernie Buescher for state representative. A primary reason given for the endorsement was that Buescher is the chairman of the budget committee and possibly in line for the speaker of the House. The thought being that this would make him better able to bring home the bacon to Mesa County. I suggest that this type of thinking is exactly why the country is in the situation we currently find ourselves. Politicians are made to believe that bringing back earmark projects and other monies back to their districts is their primary function.

True enough, Mr. Buescher may be in a position to bring some of our tax money back to Mesa County. But should we forget that he went along with Bill Ritter’s property tax increase, his plan to increase energy taxes by $321 million or the unionization of state employees? What kind of thinking is this? We don’t care if you vote for higher taxes and bigger government as long as you bring back some of the money here?

Are our state representatives there to bring home the bacon or are they there to run the state’s business? Is our state representative there to represent Mesa County or is he there to raise taxes and make government bigger? I suggest that Mr. Buescher, although he may be able to bring home some of our tax money, has shown that he will vote with the East Slope liberals to raise our taxes and make government larger.
