It certainly appears that The Daily Sentinel is managing the news in order to support the re-election of Mesa County Commissioners Meis and Rowland.
Two weeks ago The Daily Sentinel did not see fit to print another story about Mesa County filing more lawsuits in its hell-bent efforts to control land-use planning in and around De Beque. Then The Daily Sentinel did run a story erroneously reporting that De Beque had annexed another piece of property. That story was false. The town opted to wait on that annexation hoping that county electorate would elect better commissioners.
On Oct. 20, the Town of De Beque received notice that Mesa County was challenging the Schlumberger Project. For Mesa County and the town of De Beque, this project means hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for years to come. With construction costs estimated at $40 million, local sales and use taxes alone will likely be over $800,000. Obviously, property taxes will be substantial.
In spite of these facts, The Daily Sentinel did not run that story.
I would think that Meis and Rowland’s misuse of the court system in an attempt to control De Beque, and their efforts to send Schlumberger to another county, clearly renders them unfit for re-election. The Sentinel’s role in hiding these inappropriate acts of the county government makes one question the Sentinel’s ethics and objectivity.
