The Republican National Party spent $150,000 on clothes for Sarah Palin in just two months. She must be the best-dressed “soccer mom” in the world. I wonder what “Joe The Plumber” thinks about this?
Cindy McCain probably doesn’t spend that much and she and Sen McCain are very, very wealthy.

Well, Jan, she does need to look presentable. And she is not wealthy so she doesn’t have the clothes she needed. Would you rather that the Republican campaign spend the money instead, on more political ads? She is not going to keep the clothes after the campaign is over; they will be given to charity.
Why are you wasting your time worrying about such minutia. I’m sure you have better things to complain about.

What’s more disturbing is this afternoon’s story–that her stylist is earning more than her foreign affairs advisor, at least recently.

What’s EVEN more disturbing is how the MSM continues to report all this stuff, yet you never seen anything about Obama and his spending. So much sickening one sided BS!!
For example, his 3.3 Million in a single day of TV advertising. And a multi-million 30 minute ad with CBS and NBC. Talk about waste and over spending.

BTW
Hillary Clinton’s pantsuits during her campaigning against Obama, cost $6000 each. Think about that one!

tasha53 - But Tasha, Hillary paid for her campaign wardrobe with her own funds, unlike “Moose Mom” Palin.

And so do Obama and Biden.
From the Chicago-Sun Times, discussing speculation as to who paid for an outfit that Michelle Obama wore out to her anniversay dinner:
“Whatever it was, it was paid for by the Obamas themselves, the Obama campaign said.
Neither the campaign nor the DNC [Democratic National Committee] has paid for clothing,” spokesman Ben LaBolt said Wednesday in response to news reports that the Republican National Committee spent $150,000 on a makeover for Sarah Palin.
Barack Obama, running mate Joe Biden and their wives get no campaign or DNC money for clothes, LaBolt said.”

You know that people are getting nervous when they come up with topics like this.

This is one of those non-issues that they accuse the republicans of dwelling on. There are so many serious issues that our next president will be dealing with, clothes should be item number 5788.

Sarah is a normal person who has not had to dress for the national political scene. She is not rich, and does not try to pretend otherwise. She is not a Washington insider (applause). Alaska is pretty low key. The DNC sprung for some clothing to get her up and running, so she could concentrate on more important things. She says she didn’t even use them all, and they will be returned or donated to charity. If they hadn’t done that, I am sure we would be hearing how dowdy she looks. It is just another way to trash Palin. The Dems are expert and ruthless at making a human being into a caricature, then accepting their own spin as reality.

I think the clothes issue is overdone, although I think she does look “overdressed” and “over coiffed” whenever I see her on television. Below is a link to an editorial in the Anchorage Daily News(ADN) today. The ADN is Alaska’s most widely read newspaper. Of particular interest is the last paragraph.

NativeGal - All the expensive makeover did for Sarah Palin was to transform her from “Hockey Mom” to “Caribou Barbie” - she still isn’t qualified to be the “president-n-waiting.”

$150K?! Wow, in the real world, some people work all year to make that kind of money. (In GJ It make take as long as 5 yrs, but anyway…) This is a non-issue. Most people don’t have this kind of wardrobe and it’s all going to charity afterwards. The real question is wether or not you agree with the Repub ticket?

And just how is Obama qualified? We already know that answer, he isn’t.

I think the clothes issue is silly except in the context of the people who Palin and McCain are trying to identify themselves with. I think Sarah could look very spiffy without overpriced designer clothes. It’s hard to imagine what the buyer of those clothes had in mind in terms of image making when they are depicting themselves as champions of Joe the Plumber.
tasha,#3, Obama has big bucks available to spend to help him get elected because donors of all walks of life have contributed to his campaign because they think he is best qualified, particularly the millions of small donors. Obama’s average is about $86 per donation the last I heard. In most elections it is Republicans who have the money to outspend their competitors. I agree that that is an obscene amount to be spent on campaigning but that certainly doesn’t reflect on Obama, but on the system. Bringing that up in a discussion of the price of an image making attempt for a candidate and the message it sends to the very folks they are trying to convince that they are “just plain folks” seems very strange, to say the least. I think it is hilarious and one more sign of a campaign totally out of control and destined to go down in flames. It’s a very sad state of affairs when a man acceptable to many, if not most, Democrats in the past has sold his soul in the name of trying to appeal to the most rabid, extreme Republicans and people with whom he has no rapport nor understanding of their lives.

tasha53 - Sorry, but in the battle of the “unqualifieds” I still prefer a former editor of the Harvard Law Review to someone who gets her weekly hormone fixes by shooting animals from airplanes and calls her husband “the first dude.”

To Ullr: Thanks for being an excellent example of the elite appeal of Obama. How connected to real life is the Harvard Law Review? It would take a sense of humor to appreciate “first dude,” and red blood flowing in your veins to understand hunting. Ivory-tower politically-correct governing led to the sub-prime loan mess, and Freddie and Fannie crashing, which lands soundly in the Democrats laps. I just wish people could see it before it’s too late. What Sarah wears is just part of the smoke screen the libs are throwing up till they get us into the Super Majority Matrix. Just see what happens then.

nativegal, How connected to “real” life? Actually, very. Try to do much of anything without legal help. Yes, dealing with the legal system is often a pain in the butt, but what is the alternative? We are in the midst of troubles caused by those who believe in minimal laws and regulations and faith that people will do the right thing, the economic system is always self-righting and there is minimal tendency in “human nature” to break the rules if no one is watching. Remember, the sainted Fathers of our Country that are so revered for their wisdom in putting our country together were not “good old boys” but the elite of the time and most were extremely well educated, particulrly for the time. You seem to be implying that the country would be better off with minimally educated “regular folks” running things with common sense and intuition. That’s not what works in the business world and this country is far, far more complex than any corporation. I’d say Harvard Law Revue trumps 5th from the bottom of the class at Annapolis that Daddy got him into because it was a family tradition. We’ll forget about the rest of the mediocrity in much of the McCain resume’. By the way, better do some honest research on how we got into the mortgage mess and who the players were. Fox News, Hannity and Limbaugh, etc. isn’t real research. Also research what the primary economic thrust has been over the last thirty years or so, how it related to our current crisis and who was behind it. Same sources mentioned are not real research.

The Community Reinvestment Act, implemented in the Carter Administration and refined during the Clinton administration set up the sub-prime mortgage disaster that cracked the foundation of our economy. They are trying to distract us from that truth. But I thank these people for continuing to illustrate my point: that they are elitists that believe they know what is best for us dumb commoners. They are lawyers and they will use to law to strangle us. Like I said, just wait till they get us into a Super-Majority hold and bolt on the nanny state. I’m warning you!

NativeGal - If you “fact check” the Community Reinvestment Act, you will find that it was developed to counter the illegal practice of “redlining” prevalent in the 60’s and 70’s, and had NOTHING to do with the subprime mess.
You’ve been swallowing too much Republican propaganda without checking it out for yourself.

nativegal, read the CRA and tell us how it endorses or recommends sub-prime loans. It is about keeping creditworthy people from being “redlined” because of the neighborhoods they live in and discriminated against from either getting a loan at all or having disadvantageous terms being applied if they are offerd a loan. You have been sucked in by the ultra-conservative desperate talking points trying to deflect the blame, willingly, it appears. To their discredit, Fannie and Freddie did buy some sub-prime loans but no where near the percentage held by others. The sub-prime fiasco was only a small part of what was a over-valued market fed by easy money and the bubble burst. Sub-prime was a mnority of supposedly mostly good loans based on loose and sometimes fraudulent terms. The whole thing is a result of an overall financial market that has developed over the last thirty plus years based on minimal regulation and maximal pushing the boundaries of intelligent risk assessment and management. And that is a very Republican thing, regardless of where you are getting your information. The prime guru in all this has been Alan Greenspan who just last week testified that he has been horribly wrong that markets can more or less regulate themselves. You are free to believe whatever you want but that doesn’t make it correct. The ones who have strangled us are on their way out. Finally!

What you’re just going to have to come to grips with is that it’s most likely that on November 5th, right-wing conservatism and unregulated, free-market capitalism will be consigned to the dung-heap of history and that we will enter a new and exciting chapter of world history. At the forefront to lead us will be a real 21st century messiah named Barack Hussein Obama.

You guys are drinking the Democrat Kool-aid.Spin and distort. Just like Barney Frank, you cannot take a drop of responsibility for the mess. Dumb old Bush made a documented 17 attempts to get the Democrats to REGULATE their precious Fanny and Freddie. McCain actually sponsored legislation. Barak says he went to have a TALK with the Fed. But was not willing to face down his party when he knew they were running amok. Pelosi and Reed will be leading him around by the… hand. It is not free market capitalism that failed. It was interfered with by political correctness. Good intentions. Standard mortgage procedures were done away with. Nothing like a do-gooder, know-it-all to mess things up. Once again thanks for demonstrating the arrogance and marxism that is coming our way if “a real 21st century messiah named Barack Hussein Obama” comes into power. Are you paying attention people? These guys are salivating. See them for what they are right now. Good-bye guns, good-bye conservative talk radio per “Fairness Doctrine”(they own the mainstream press but cannot stand for opposing ideas to have a platform.) Good-bye anything they decide is not good for us. They are planning to seize our 401k’s (if anything is left of them), and throw them into the Social Security pit. They have big plans. If you have not yet voted - vote for McCain/Palin to keep them from having the SUPER MAJORITY of the White House, House of Reps and the Senate. Gotta go guys!

You’re right, we do have big plans, and we’re going to implement them with the same intensity and dedication that Bush used on us for the past eight years.
The revolution is here - you might as well embrace it, because you really don’t have a choice.
