To all those who have seen that negative ad on TV about Laura Bradford being against health insurance policies that cover cancer screenings, be advised that it is a lie being promoted by Colorado Values, a 527 group to help Bernie Buescher get re-elected.
Laura has stated that it would be beneficial to have more options when shopping for health insurance coverage, not less. She would like to see, as an example, people given a choice to opt for an affordable, no-frills kind of policy that covers major medical incidents, to encourage more people to become insured, especially those in their 20s, who don’t feel they need complete coverage yet.
By the way, Laura is a cancer survivor who paid for all her care herself. She did not have health insurance at the time and so knows first hand the value of having the coverage you need.
Laura Bradford has my strong support.

This is from Ralph D’Andrea’s Junction Dail Blog from 10/25/08. Ralph doesn’t deal in what his gut is saying when he checks into something. Here are his findings and thoughts about the facts that are always not a part of Bradford’s talking points that her folowers so blindly write letters about.
“My friend Mike Saccone over at Political Notebook is a brilliant young reporter, but I fear he has let himself be used for free media by the Laura Bradford campaign. Yesterday, Bradford called a press conference to whine about the same TV advertisement she called a press conference to whine about last week. It’s an ad sponsored by a 527 group over which her opponent has no control.
She has no money to advertise, so she figures she can get her name in the paper for free just by calling a press conference, whether the subject is still newsworthy or not. Is it news, or is it Groundhog Day? Whining about the same 527 ad two weeks in a row is Groundhog Day. So far her tactic has been working, but I wonder for how long? As a voter, I think it would be much more newsworthy if Bradford would call a press conference to discuss the first five bills she plans to sponsor in the Legislature. But that’s just me.
Regarding the ad, which says that Bradford opposes mandates that would require insurance coverage for things like cancer screening, go ahead and be your own judge about whether it’s fair. This, from a Sentinel article that ran on September

Buescher also challenged Bradford during the debate to say whether insurance companies should be required to provide coverage for screening for preventable diseases, including breast and prostate cancer.
“Should they be required?” Bradford said. “If we had more insurance companies … insurance companies would be able to offer those things at lower rates.”
It doesn’t sound like she’s jumping up and down in favor of such a requirement, does it? Maybe if what she said wasn’t what she meant, she should have been more careful about what she said.
But Bradford doesn’t just talk to Mike Saccone. She was much more clear in her response to a League of Women Voters questionnaire.
Here’s what Bradford said to the League about mandated health insurance coverage:
The legislature can reduce the number of mandates placed on small group carriers and allow those carriers to offer a low-cost minimum benefit plan FREE from existing mandates. I would oppose any mandates requiring employers to provide health insurance.
Saccone defended Bradford against the ad based only on his own reporting. Perhaps Saccone ought to check his ego at the door, use “The Google”, and try to understand that Bradford speaks to people other than him. Her response to the League is clear. She said what she said. Bradford opposes mandates. The ad she’s whining about is accurate. In her protest of the accuracy of the advertisement, Bradford is clearly full of shit.
By the way, Bradford, who is clearly out of the mainstream, also thinks that preschool and full-day kindergarten are bad ideas too. Maybe if somebody runs an ad about that, she can call another press conference. And the Sentinel will probably cover it.”

John - I was at the Buescher/Bradford debate at Central High School several weeks ago when Laura stunned the audience by declaring:
“We should be PROUD that District 51 is the lowest-funded school system in the state.”
Her unbelievable logic was that being the lowest funded school system was OK because our test scores weren’t the lowest (we are near the bottom, but not the lowest).
