I am normally not one to complain about political campaigns being negative. We need to look at all sides of the issues, and the candidates try to avoid revealing their own weaknesses. However, it is time to draw the line when an attack ad is just not truthful.
Have you seen the anti-Laura Bradford television ad that says that she is against health insurance policies that include cancer screenings? Not true! This one hits too close to home.
Laura is not one to play it up, but she is a cancer survivor. As a single mom with 3 kids and a new business, she faced cancer uninsured. So there isn’t much about this issue that she doesn’t understand. I have talked with Laura about this issue, and it is clear that this ad does not sum up her position. She does believe that options should be available.
People have different priorities at different stages of their lives. In their 20s, people aren’t concerned about prostate exams, mammograms or colonoscopies. Their priority may be to just be able to afford a bare-bones policy that will cover a young family. Mandates take away choices.
I think Bernie Buescher needs to call off the outside attack dogs on this one. It is not true. Laura knows this subject inside and out, and on this and other issues, she has our best interests at heart. And she doesn’t need to impress Governor Ritter and Eastern Slope Democrats.
