I am really upset as I think about what has happened to Bernie Beuscher. In trying to find the “reason” or the “why” he wouldn’t be returned to Denver by acclimation, a thought has occurred to me:
We have a lot of new people who have recently moved here, including the editor of the Sentinel newspaper. Just because a candidate has a “Rep.” behind their name doesn’t make them the best choice. You should have researched a little better and you would have found a genuinely good man who has lived here his whole life. His energies have been directed to making Mesa County a good place to live, by working for and representing everyone, regardless of political views, color or creed.
I thank him for the representation that he has given myself, my family and all Mesa County citizens. Mesa State is better for his efforts in gaining funding. He has returned funding that will help veterans. He was instrumental in protecting the homestead exemption which was approved by the citizens and arbitrarily compromised by the former state administration. In case you are unaware, that one gave seniors who have lived in their home for 10 years to pay 50 percent less property taxes. He has been thoughtful in developing
ways to further energy exploration and development, and protect where we live.
Did you know he was instrumental in balancing the state budget as chairman of that committee? Think about that in these financially troubled times. That is just a few of the contributions he has made for the Western Slope. Without him our representation has been eliminated.
So, Bernie, thank you so much.

Replacing Bernie Buescher with Laura Bradford is like trading in your Lincoln Continental for a Yugo. She has enormous shoes to fill and I hope she rises to the challenge of being a legislator and not just another vote for Josh Penrys’ agenda.

I’m loathe to admit this, as my disdain for Gary Harmon’s columns is no secret; but his latest column presents some very good reasons as to why no one should be crowing too loudly about Mesa County’s “Straight Republican Ticket” mentality winning the last election:

And it’s just coincidence that I only think he’s smart when I agree with him.
Seriously.
