This is in reference to Steve Hagerman’s letter in The Daily Sentinel Nov. 11. The road from US 6 and 24 to the Anvil Points was paved with the oil that was developed by the Bureau of Mines at the time that it was in operation. Also, two streets in Rifle were done at that time.

You can check this out for your self by getting off of Interstate 70 at Rulision to the Anvil Points Road. This road is still being used to get to the Garfield County Land Fill. Then go on to Rifle and have a cup of coffee with some old timer. By the way this was done by laying the oil shale and shredding it out with a road grader.
