Letter writer Creighton Bricker is so far off the track on so many subjects it’s difficult to tell where to start. He doesn’t take the time and trouble to do his own investigating, relies on so-called pundits too much.

The government (capable people) runs business more efficiently than private business principally because there is no profit for unscrupulous CEOs and board members to steal.

As for other successful government programs, WWII and NASA won a war and went to the moon. And don’t forgot the government designed and constructed all the dams, highways, bridges, power sources and grids, computers and, above all, the Army, Navy, and Air Force we expect to protect us every day.

Social Security is the only government tax that has a surplus every year. In 2007, the surplus was $250 billion. After I retired in 1988, my monthly checks have totaled seven times more (and growing) than I initially put in during a period of 45 years.

The 70 million Social Security and pension recipients get the only sure checks every month, and don’t have to worry about being fired or laid off.

The auto companies made cars they knew would sell, the same principal all other companies employed and had no way to foresee the housing and credit crash … nobody did.

There are legal union contracts and commitments the auto companies must comply with, many we know nothing about, so let’s not arbitrarily cut union workers wages until we know more about the complete picture.
