Where’s the Hooters outrage?
I read recently on the front page of The Daily Sentinel that Hooters Restaurant is soon to be joining the group of national chain restaurants to grace Grand Junction. This development was lauded with a front-page teaser and an article inside.
My question to those who will welcome Hooters with excitement is this: What is the difference between Hooters and the proposed strip (gentlemen’s) club the community is up in arms about?
They both serve alcohol. They both feature scantily clad women using their attributes to earn tips. They both are based on the time-tested adage that sex sells, and that is precisely what Hooters sells. (Trust me, the food is not that good and the beverages will be a bit pricey.)
Where is the outrage? Where are the feminists protesting the exploitation of women? Where are the protesters complaining that this kind of establishment does not belong in a mixed residential/commercial neighborhood?
If I were among the investors wanting to open the strip club, I would be back in front of the zoning commission with these arguments. Perhaps all it takes to be welcome is to serve chicken wings?

Cooling and warming are natural weather cycles
Did you know that we have, and have had, changing weather patterns that repeat themselves over and over again since the beginning of time? It is true. The weather patterns on our Earth are constantly changing.
For the past several years, scientists have been saying that the Earth is warming up, also referred to as global warming. They have tried to make everyone think that the Earth was getting hot and that CO2 emissions from cars were making a hole in the ozone layer. Now, many parts of the Earth are recording record low temperatures — including Grand Junction, by the way.
At www.iceagenow.com, you can read about nationwide record low temperatures and record high snow and rainfall. We have had periods when the Earth warms up, but those periods occur as often as when the Earth cools down.
I personally think we will continue to get these same kinds of weather patterns until the end of time.
In the 1970s, scientists were predicting another ice age. Twenty years later, they predicted global warming. I think that these weather patterns, that go from cold to warm every 15 years or so, are permanent weather patterns that were designed and put here by the creator of the entire universe.
Do some research about global warming and the supposed climate change and you may be surprised at what you find.

“Cooling and warming are natural weather cycles”
1-There was never, ever any level of consensus in the 70’s that a new ice age was imminent; rather in its infancy, climate science at the time was divided with a few prominent scientists arguing that the earth was cooling. There is now overwhelming consensus that global warming is occurring, and nearly as much consensus that human activity is a leading contributor.
2. The hole in the ozone was caused by aerosol propellants, not CO2.
As you suggest, you might want to “Do some research about global warming and the supposed climate change…” however I suggest that you broaden your sources.

The title of Kevin McCarneys letter was so right on! Where is the outrage? Only how can a quality, classy place as Grand Junction even consider such a trashy place? The food isn’t that good, and some of those waitresses look so unhappy, as they are fully aware of their role. And the rude comments that must ensue as this is the focus of the establishment.I was a server for 30 years, and it’s hard enough to garner the respect that is fully deserved, without displaying your goods. Who’s daughters, are going to work there? I didn’t write before because I’m a newcomer. But even the liberal area I was from would not let a hooters in. Please perserve the dignity and good reputation of Grand Junction. Sincerely, Linda Barbin
