Mesa County Republicans persist in dedicating time and effort to activities amounting to party line flag-waving.

We saw Laura Bradford do it in her effort to postpone implementation of the new gas and oil rules.

Josh Penry keeps his GOP credentials sharp by knocking any efforts put forth by the Democrats whenever he gets a chance so he can build his resume for the next election and by insisting that the economic slowdown in western Colorado is the result of the regulation of the gas and oil industry — even when spokesmen for the industry say that is not the case.

Extremists in Mesa County who promote old-style party politics are known for what they are. I am pretty sure that Janet Rowland won’t be asked again to be someone’s running mate for higher office here in Colorado. Where was their indignation when Bush was promoting the bailout for the banks before he left office?

Josh, Laura and Janet will probably be re-elected every time they run in Mesa County if they remain “good” Republicans, but thank goodness, they will never be in a position to much influence what goes on in the rest of our beautiful state.

Even the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce has jumped on the bandwagon as righteous enforcer of rules and what is right in Grand Junction. Politics in Mesa County are probably not going to change until the old guard dies off, but they are irrelevant and not a force for what is going to keep making Colorado a great place for us all to live.
