I looked in horror at the “Lives Lived” obituaries on Feb. 25, which included a memoriam for a dog.

This is outrageous, degrading, disrespectful and insulting to the whole human race. A dog, no matter how beloved, does not belong in the same class as human beings, with his picture and history printed next to photos of people who have passed away.

Is there no sense of dignity at The Daily Sentinel?

Man, people will get pissed off about anything…

Jeepers - wound a bit tight, Katie? Have some respect. This is now on your permanent record, so when you’re reincarnated as a Pomeranian or Chowdoodle…you will likely suffer endlessly. Who knows - you might even be attacked by a pack of rabid Beagles tonight.

Holy Cow, Katie. You really should start washing those shorts in cold water - they are obviously getting way too tight.

I wouldn’t have written an lte about it but I agree….with Katie.

Don’t people pay money to put the obituaries in… Obviously it meant a lot for the family of the dog to have them in the paper. Isn’t the obituary supposed to be a memorial for the family to cherish? Who cares who or what goes there, it is for the family and friends, not anyone else. Let them have their moment…

    UncleFester… Chowdoodle…. :) That’s great.

You know what lady, You are the one who has no dignity. People who own pets become attached and the pets are no longer just animals they become part of the family. And for your information the obituaries and memorials are paid for by the families. So back off and show some respect, it’s obvious you are another heartless holier than thou human. Animals are living breathing creatures too.

It’s certainly unorthodox but no reason for outrage.

I have more respect for dogs than some of the people I know. RCJ are you listening? You leave more waste everywhere you go than a whole pack of dogs.

kemosabe123: “I have more respect for dogs than some of the people I know.”

Ah, so true. And, as I often tell others: “This world might be more civilized if we let the dogs run loose and place collars and leashes on people.”

A good dog deserves every bit of respect a human does upon its death. An obituary is a fine way to commemorate the death of a great friend, no matter what physical form that friend took. Thanks to whoever ran it, and I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

I honestly can’t imagine what people like you would do in a society that has REAL problems.

People do pay for those obituaries and as obituaries go the one for the dog was one of the classier ones.
