It sure was a shock and surprise to me to learn of the demise of one of Grand Junction’s most prolific intellects and writers — J. Eugene Fox.

Over the past decade, Mr. Fox and I often traded salvos about any number of topics, but mostly about the subject of biblical faith, America’s Christian heritage, and his favorite — the so-called doctrine of separation of church and state. They were classic left-versus-right issues and I only hope I presented a credible apologetic. There was not an issue that we weren’t on polar opposites over, but I always respected his scholarship, logic, and enthusiasm for battle

I have always regularly read the Letters section of the paper while steeling myself for J. Eugene’s next blast. I will miss them!

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I second the writer’s sentiments. While Class of 52 and I often went at it here, he always showed a great depth of knowledge and he drove me to make sure I had my facts straight before making a posting.

    He will be missed.

    Dr. Science, rest in peace.

Since I only knew J. Eugene Fox from his writings in the columns he wrote for the local newspaper and his postings on this site, I did not know much about his background. I read his life story in the obituary in the Free Press. What an incredible life, and what a stunning record of accomplishment and achievement! I don’t know what we in Grand Junction did to deserve someone like him, but somehow the quote that “there were giants on the earth in those days” seems to apply here. Good luck to Dr. Fox’s family and his comrades-in-arms, wherever they may be.

Dang it. ‘52 really classed this joint up. I really wanted to meet the man. Condolences to the family, and if any of you are as smart as ‘52, please come take his place and continue to whoop on all these wingnuts!
