It appears that John Salazar, Mark Udall, and Michael Bennett are still not too interested in seeing where the hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars spent for TARP and TALF are going.

HR 1207 and it’s companion bill in the Senate, S. 604, would require an audit of the Federal Reserve’s vast spending authority with regard to our government’s profligate bailouts of Wall Street.

Knowing how government money is spent seems like a good thing for a representative to know, don’t you think?

Call these members of Congress and let them know you want them to keep track of all the billions they are borrowing to spend on bailouts. Or if you prefer to contact them via the internet, go to www.downsizedc.org’s campaign to Audit the Fed and click your mouse a couple times to send a customizable message. They desperately need to know how you feel.

Maybe another better way would be to know, yourself, what was in the bills and then contact the senators to get their position, first hand, and why.I’d like to know and I’ll find out but I’m not ready to be rushed into a website and an advocate with an agenda. Bills on the Hill are notorious for containing all kinds of things meant to be a “bitter pill” or “surprise.” You want your represenatives to be informed? Start with yourself. You may find you agree with Cox but what do you know of him as an political advisor? And you can be sure this is politics, not mere common sense.

your chances of getting their position, first hand, is zero unless you fly out there and wait around for a spot to see them. It is good advice to read the bill yourself. You can do so at http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.1207: The text from S 604 is at http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.604:
This bill doesn’t even take a minute to read, unlike the bs that is continuously passed without being read. This bill has 245 co-sponsors out of the 430 or so members of congress. I think around 40 democrats are even co-sponsoring it so it has fairly wide bi-partisan support. It is guaranteed to pass if brought out of committee for a vote. Without a doubt this is common sense politics.

and just who is to audit the non-governmental Federal Reserve? Congress? or some other government agency? WOW that’s like letting the fox guard the hen house. and if congress finds out that something is wrong with the Fed, what will they do? besides sit around and what for their pockets to be stuffed with FRNs (federal reserve notes)

There should be a panel made up of 10 each of small bank presidents( with a cap in gross revenue, not sure how much.) Insurance exec’s who didn’t receive any federal monies, randomly chosen citizens with no political ties or past discernible activism-preferably registered independents, 10 House members from each of the two majority parties.
When the looting, destructive inflating and manipulation by the FED reserve is exposed, they should be shut down and we should return to the gold standard. With the current price of gold everybody’s wealth would immediately increase the dollar would be a viable investment to foreign entities again, then the market and value of the dollar would acclimate to appropriate levels with a modicum of stability and little risk to individuals. Foreign investment would return and businesses could again expand and return to prosperity and hiring raising the GDP and personal wealth. If the Fair tax act were to be passed in conjunction with the elimination of the Fed reserve and return to the gold standard, private and corporate domestic investment would increase exponentially resulting in that many more jobs, that much more hiring, more personal wealth, more tax revenue for the bloated greedy gov’t to waste and more security for private investors as well as all who have retirement plans who obviously are vested in the stock market!

Salazar & Udall had ZERO interest in where the TARP money was going when they voted on it. They can only pretend to care now. Why did they vote yes to a POS bill that didn’t have stipulations and strings attached??? For starters, obbyists probably helped author the TARP.

Bush is characterized as “the progenitor of all bad ideas”. A Democrat Congress took Bush’s worst idea, and made it happen.

Given that Congress did not care what was done with TARP money, many of the recipients followed Congress’s example. Hence, the AIG Corporate retreat party at a fabulously overpriced resort upon receiving a fat stack of cash.

We should start with ethics violations. It is unethical for a Congressman to accept campaign contributions from a Corporation that received TARP money. It is one and the same as earmarking themselves a contribution to their campaign fund. OH… I get it its not the same. So long as the money changes hands first, then its OK and perfectly ethical.

FED-UP extols the virtues of the Fair Tax…. Its only the most awesome, and readable piece of legislation written. The suicide rate of people who have read the Fair Tax is far better than the suicide rate of those who have fully read any other piece of legislation. Fair Tax would destroy the Lobbyist industry for starters. With no tax code, earmarked ‘corporate welfare tax breaks’ etc…. the Lobby industry would wither and die.

Lobbyists should wear a letter jacket sized scarlet letter “L”. Lobbyists should believe in their cause, and barely afford to live in a trailer park 50 miles from Washington DC. Congress should NOT be allowed to accept campaign contributions in Washington DC, or while Congress is in session. FACT. It is unethical to do so. So here is what should happen… a shady local lawyer works for the various lobby and PAC firms. On commission, retainer or whatever. On the first day Congress is out of session, an Armored Truck with police escort pulls up to the Local Congressional office…. The “Lobbyist” {shady local lawyer} crosses a picket line of protesters, {some might call this a “gauntlet”} and hand delivers checks to local congressional office.
