The July 7 letter to the editor written by Cully Eisner-Terrill, regarding compassion for the homeless, was very well written. I hope it raises the consciousness of not only the good people of Grand Junction, but especially the City Council, who want to pass laws and fine people for panhandling.
There are plenty of laws already on the books that protect people from abuse by others, and aggressive behaviors.
I agree that, for many Americans, there is a fear of coming into contact with others’ pain and suffering.
Yes, there are places in our city where the homeless may go for help. Why some choose not to make contact is their own reason.
We need to respect one another, and have compassion for those with different ideals than our own.
