I watched President Obama’s appearance in Grand Junction on local television Saturday and also watched his appearance in Belgrade, Montana Friday on C-SPAN. I noticed a number of similarities in the two events.

First, the president made essentially the same speech in both cities, simply changing the name of the town or state to fit the event and I had no problem with that.

Secondly — and quite amazingly — when the president opened the floor to questions, Obama had essentially the same answers to the questions in both cities. Do I think the questioners were “presidential plants?” No, I don’t. I do believe, however, that the president would listen for key words in the questions so that he could use pre-planned answers for each audience. This leads me to believe that no matter what questions were asked, Obama had pat responses ready, rather than deal with the specifics of each questions.

I was disappointed in this as I would expect a United States president — a popular one at that — to deal with each question individually rather than have ready-made answers no matter what the questions.

Randall, I think there are plenty of policy issues where this president can be criticized. But your criticism is petty and unfair. He goes to meetng after meeeting after meeting and the questions asked are very similar. So, of course, so are the answers.

I thought he did a good job at this meeting although some of his answers were pretty nebulous and misleading.

Having said that, I can’t help but like this guy even though I disagree with his agenda.

He is a politician, very skilled and intelligent, but still a politician. He was not there to listen to people, he was there to get a sound bite. What else would you expect?

The President is fighting for our quality of life, he is fighting for all Americans. We are so used to a president only working to benefit the rich, that it’s hard for some people to understand that he is on the side of all Americans in the fight for affordable health care.

Thank you, President Obama, for fighting for us!
