Obama over promises and under delivers.
I was elated to get a call from White House staff to inform me that I had received a ticket to President Obama’s town hall meeting in Grand Junction August 15. I drove to Grand Junction to pick up my ticket the night before and again to attend the meeting.
I arrived an hour prior to the meeting only to be turned away as the seats had been oversold. If his staff cannot manage a town hall meeting how are they going to manage my health care? I am concerned that we will ruin the best health care system ever in the world. We do not need a bureaucrat intervening between me and my doctor.

Sorry you were turned away, Dick -
So, if overbooking is an indictment of the entire administration, we might as well shut down the airlines, hotel chains, and Invesco field while we’re at it, right?
“ruin the best health care system in the world”, huh?

You might want to check in with that doctor, though. Not being able to count to 37 might be a symptom of a bigger brain disorder.

Isn’t it interesting that all the people so far who have said they were denied access even though they had a ticket were against the proposed health care plan. Now I wonder how that could happen. And by the way has anyone asked who all those PLAIN white buses belonged to? How many people were bused in, that then resulted in the ticket holders being denied a seat?
Anyone? Anyone at all?

Jesus H. Christ on a club sandwich with extra mayo…take your insipid conspiracy theories and pulled-out-of-your-backside facts (ALL of the people who were denied access were anti-reform? Really?) over to gjresult, willya? They feed on that stuff over there.

I am curious about the “plain” white buses as well. Has anyone found the story on the white buses?
Bussing in “friendlies” is not a new political concept. FDR practically invented the practice.
And don’t everyone get their panties in a bunch about this example. I am not comparing anyone to anyone!
But Hugo Chavez busses in hundreds of “paid” friendlies and they take up the first 15 to 25 rows of every public appearance he makes.
I am just saying no presidential staff worth their weight in spit is going to let anyone close to a president who could do him harm in any way. Including embarrassing questions or loud disruptions. They are not going to allow ANYONE in who they think can harm the president in any form or fashion.
Anyone who really believed that they were going to let anyone close who could in any way cause a problem (eg. voice strong opposition to his health care plan) is sadly misguided.
It is not a conspiracy theory it is called “presidential handling”.
Of course they don’t advertise this and they are experts at “marketing” presidential public appearances. It is theater plain and simple.
You know why you have not heard about any “town hall” meetings lately? They either quit having them or they started “handling” them much like presidential staffs “handle” public events.
They tried the whole right wing, brown shirt, nazi, NRA, radical conservative infiltration excuse but it backfired. One - because it was not accurate and two - because it was too big to explain away week after week.

Excuse me but if you are going to attack me personally, you could actually read what I said first. And unless you are going to get me banned here, I will post anytime I please Sir.
I said ‘the people who have said SO FAR that they were denied access, not that all who were denied. So get if right before you slam anyone with a dissenting view. I thought with the new ownership of the paper maybe a dissenting view from far left would be allowed, but I see you are still correcting grammer and spelling, and slamming anyone who disagrees with you instead of debating an issue.
And to whiskeyman, you are correct and I know that. I just get tired of listening to the “we are in charge and you can’t stop us” attitude because I fear the division that I see in our nation will result in something these people never even think of because of their short sighted view of politics instead of the real world as a whole.

grandma-
You didn’t present a ‘dissenting view’, you presented the usual conspiracy theory with the standard “I don’t have the guts to say this directly” innuendos. If you’re going to make accusations, be prepared for dissent, or go back where it’s more comfortable. I can understand that you’re disappointed that it didn’t turn into a lynch mob, given the hate-filled rhetoric you guys were amping yourself up with.
As for banning, I don’t have that power, influence, or desire.
No, you and the gjresult crew are free to go right on posting. Dissenting opinions are not banned here, regardless of their basis. Pity the same can’t be said of gjresult, huh?

The heads of the Mesa County Democrats and Republicans were interviewed on national TV. Chuck Pabst, head of the Republicans, said that some two thirds of tickets were given away. Surely, those went to Democrats, including election volunteers.
I felt that the questions were fair and there were two questions regarding the public option that were tough, one from Randy the insurance salesman and the other from a CU student (they’ll never let him back in Boulder). Those questions led to Obama saying that the public option was just a sliver of the entire bill and it was this comment that has been repeated over and over in the media as an indication that Obama has given up on the public option.
It’s too bad that some people with tickets were turned away.

There doesn’t need to be any conspiracy to have the same effect. Whatever questionable “strategies” that were used to protect BO from facing the substantial voices of dissent - were most likely carried out by independent ‘like-minded’ local officials or planners - loyal to the “cause”. Much in the same way cult leaders stay above the fray while their members blindly carry out the mission - as “useful idiots”.

Curm,
This must be the only blog you post on. Do you ever want to check out other opinions or ideas or are you set in your ways and don’t want to be confused by facts. Just wondering?
I hate to tell you this, but from the posts I read every day, you are losing this one too. Others have started standing up and speaking up.

Cite facts, and I’ll deal with facts. Spout innuendo, and I’ll deal with that.
Spout outright lies (The Sentinel, with a LIBERAL BIAS?) and I’ll deal with that.

“I can understand that you’re disappointed that it didn’t turn into a lynch mob, given the hate-filled rhetoric you guys were amping yourself up with”.
Hate filled rhetoric? This is why I don’t like to go to the dark side it doesn’t really solve anything.
You think that the protesters are lynch mobs and hate filled? I can only gather from your post that you think anyone who protests against President Obama is a hate filled lynch mob. I can further gather that “you guys” refers in a bigger sense to all evil conservatives. It is easy to read between the lines.
I did not see lynch mobs at Lincoln Park or outside Central High School. I know hate speech and lynch mob mentality when I see it or hear it.
The examples below illustrate that a lynch mob mentality can be found among the elite, open minded, tolerant, freedom loving, progressive, enlightened, lets all get along liberals. Dems are capable of sharping a sword and stirring up a lynch mop (even those enlightened ones who support President Obama). People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
I could have spent all day finding examples of liberal hate speech but I think this makes my point.
Boston is a liberal enclave yet this is reported on boston.com of the Boston Globe.

You misunderstand…I didn’t say they were lynch mobs. I said grandma was disappointed that there weren’t.
Both sides are capable, of course. But to call the Sentinel a liberally biased publication? Are you going to defend that?

bullish - My mistake. That should have been directed to ‘whiskeyman’;
you both have the same high level of intelligence, but I’ve never seen you quote anything from NewsMax.

Did I just get insulted? Oh well it doesn’t matter. I would not consider myself an intellectual either.
And yes I do believe that the Sentinel is liberally biased. It is a relative thing. I read the Sentinel religiously as I spent 50 years in the area. But yes I would have to say there has been a liberal bias in the Sentinel. It has been very slight in my opinion - but still there. They publish in (until recently) a very conservative area and I think that the Sentinel does a good job with balance, But to be honest I think if you took all the staff, the reporters, editors and ownership I think you would find that there were more Democrats than Republicans. So there is bound to be bias.
Bias doesn’t threaten me personally that much. I can sort out the bias whether it be liberal or conservative.
On a national cultural basis the most damaging bias is in what they DON’T report as opposed to what they do report. It is the details and facts they leave out that is dangerous. It affects our collective ability to make good informed decisions.
Unless you go to the admitted conservative news sources you will not find conservative bias. The mainstream media is grossly biased in a liberal way. I know you will disagree and I will not get into that spitting contest.
It is just my observed opinion that CBS, ABC, NBC, NPR, BBC, MSNBC, CNN, Google news, New York Times, LA Times, Denver Post, etc…. are all grossly biased to the left.
So I do not apologize for watching and visiting conservative media sources to counter balance the other side. If the only media I was privileged to was the ones you approved of then I would most likely be a liberal as well.
I do not always agree with the conservative media either but I want to know both ideological points of view.
I just find myself identifying with the conservative ideology. That is not a crime. Nor by process of selective bias does it make me a racist or a brown shirt or even a possible lynch mob participant. It simply makes me human.
