It was a tremendous honor for Central High School to host President Obama’s Town Hall meeting. o matter what your political beliefs are, the most powerful man in the world took time to field questions from Colorado residents — truly a historical event.
Education is about asking hard questions, researching, having good, sound discussion and learning from each other. This event was a catalyst for some real learning to occur, and I hope the discussions in our community continue. No one has the perfect answer, but the political process is at work.
An abbreviated version of the five days prior to his arrival — many hands do lots and lots of work!
We had over 30 student volunteers working each day to help set up and put finishing touches on our building. We had district maintenance and grounds staff helping support the White House staff with security and final stages. Our custodial crew, although way ahead from summer, made CHS shine. At the same time, 35 plus other district buildings were being readied for the opening of school.
On the evening before the event, another 100 community volunteers hit our doors, ready to learn jobs for Saturday. We even had neighbors who came over and execute a full-scale campus clean up campaign. This event ran very smoothly because of all who pitched in. I can’t thank you enough.
As I sat and watched the event unfold — from CHS students presenting colors, the pledge and anthem, to the actual questions/answers period — I was proud of the respectful and thoughtful behavior of our community. Thank you for supporting a healthy debate, in role-model fashion. The visit is something we all can be proud of.

festered is forgetting that his buddy George W. Bush bowed, and hugged and kissed the Saudis long before Obama did. But hey, that was different…

So, I point out that GWB was closer to the Saudis than Obama ever was, and it’s a ‘man crush’ and ‘blaming GWB’? I don’t know what’s more confusing, the logic, the homophobia, or the bizarre e.e. cummings tribute…

Of course, if we’re talkin’ man-crushes:

I guess, in golfdoc’s book, it’s ok to be smoochin’ and hand-holdin’ with a Saudi King, as long as you’re a rough, tough Texan.
Good to know where you’re coming from, there, doc.

e.e. cummings… Brilliant, Curmudgeon! Here’s one for the (not so) good doctor…
“next to of course god america i
love you land of the pilgrims’ and so forth oh
say can you see by the dawn’s early my
country ’tis of centuries come and go
and are no more what of it we should worry
in every language even deafanddumb
thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gorry
by jingo by gee by gosh by gum
why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-
iful than these heroic happy dead
who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter
they did not stop to think they died instead
then shall the voice of liberty be mute?”
He spoke. And drank rapidly a glass of water
