The city of Fruita’s summer recreation program is in full swing — and so are the rackets on the tennis courts. A recent sunny morning found one of the courts at Fruita Monument High School full of little people practicing their tennis maneuvers.
Another court was populated by their siblings, who weren’t quite old enough yet for formal lessons, but still got in on the fun. Fruita resident Laci Mease had her hands full, mostly with tennis balls, which she patiently tossed over the net to a quartet of cuties.
Mease was waiting for her daughter to finish lessons while her young son and his friends swung some rackets. “It’s a great place to watch the boys and give them something to do,” she said. “They don’t like to sit still. Plus the nets around the court keep them contained!”
The city of Fruita offers tennis lessons for kids age 5 -6 and 7-13 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout the summer. For more information on tennis and the other recreation programs call 858-0360 or go online to www.fruita.org.
